This Buttermilk Ranch Dressing is super easy. Simple ingredients that you probably have in your pantry or fridge. Fresh dressings are so much better (and healthier) than bottled or jarred store-bought dressings.

A lot of my recipes come from a spur of the moment craving.
I can’t remember when exactly, but one day I decided I wanted ranch dressing for a salad and I didn’t have any in the fridge.
So, like many of us (you included, that’s how you got here 😉 ) I hopped on to my favorite cooking tool — Google — and looked up recipes for homemade ranch dressing.
I tried about 4 different recipes. Some were too thick, others too sweet or just bland.

After much trial and error, this is the recipe that I created. It combines a lot of ingredients that you probably have in your pantry and fridge already. It’s creamy, tangy, full of flavor and EASY to make.
Use good ingredients! You won’t be sorry. Splurge for the good ingredients. It seems like common sense but it’s not. In an effort to pinch pennies sometimes we sacrifice flavor and quality and it will definitely show in the final result. Use real buttermilk (no buttermilk substitutes!). Use good mayo. Here in Virginia, we have Dukes and I love it.
Check it out here on Amazon.
I’m also not a fan of anything fat-free. You are only using a couple of tablespoons on your salad, not the whole batch so don’t skimp on flavor and texture for a few calories. That’s just my preference.
I’ll be adding lower fat and fat free recipes later. For now, enjoy the decadence of this Buttermilk Ranch Dressing.
